Twitter Is For Twits Too

in Twitter For Business

Twitter TwitI am a recent convert to Twitter.  Born again if you will. Previously I had mocked it and played it off as some foolish waste of time akin to shouting in the wind, “Hey, we’ve got cheap office supplies!” So as after Tweeting that once, then what happens? My Twitter account was nothing more than blighted property. Now my eyes are starting to open to the possibilities that exist for growing my business if I just embrace this incredible tool. The truth is I mocked Twitter because I didn’t understand it.

I once thought that Twittering was reserved for those lost souls who wanted some one somewhere to know that they liked pizza or that they were stuck in traffic. This type of use is fading fast as I witness Twitter’s evolution towards pinpoint targeting for effective focused communications.  I need to get on the Twitter train now because I already missed the first one.

Having for about two years now neglected the possible impact Twitter would have on our office supply business, I slowly began to see the light.  Throughout my proud inner stance against Twitter, I began to realize that my competitors, many of whom are much much larger than our company, were implementing it.  Whoa!  If these guys are using Twitter to gain more market share, how can I be right and they be wrong? Being stupid is not how my competitors have grown to such a big size.

I was the stupid one. Not anymore. Now I’m learning. My most recent education involved the discovery of TweetDeck (apparently there are many more applications just like this one).  Actually, I can’t claim that as a discovery. It really started coming together once my computer guru pointed out this nifty program. Now I’m gathering the information I need so that I don’t simply shout into the wind. Twitter is soon to become a major section of our marketing strategy. Of course, the content must be relevant and it must be sharp. Thus, some thought should be put into it.  Tweeting Cool office supplies won’t get it done. So I readily admit I’m a complete novice. But this twit isn’t afraid to Tweet and Twitter is the newest hill for me to climb.  And though I’m still in my infant stage, I am now determined to learn, and more importantly execute, a game plan centered on making Twitter work for us. Armed with a more comprehensive strategic plan, we’ll incorporate Twitter with as many forms of media as we can.  Failure to do so is becoming indefensible.
